a book about men, 1990

Iron John, by Robert Bly

I am an adult with a boy inside, who was me sometime ago. A boy who has himself a child inside, who was me as a child.

If we really are one inside the other then we are three; the child is movement, the constant potentiality of our life, a staminal cell from which a whole body develops, a mass of potential compressed elements of the brightest of suns; the boy, irresponsible, crazy, warrior who fights against who he is in order to become who he will be, a new Self; the man, experience, wisdom, advise, logic, rationality, faith.

Being three to be one; feeling this continuity, feeling different but united, respecting our past, knowing who we are and welcoming who we will be, to see further than our eyes, to hear beyond any barrier, to perceive the road to heaven, feel the light movement of space, the taste of death, the dance of life, which smile at us, invites us, beats us, our true mother, father, spouse, daughter, by whose side, willing or not, blnd or not, every day we walk.
